Planning a New Facility?
Before you sign the lease or start construction, let Allay Consulting conduct a floor plan review to help you identify potential GMP gaps before they become costly problems.
Before you Build Your GMP Facility
Your facility can look great, pass a building inspection, and still create major Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) problems. GMP should influence the facility design, not be something you try to add after construction.
One of the most expensive mistakes a growing or producing hemp, cannabis, kratom, dietary supplement, or other plant-medicine company can make is waiting until the facility is built to think about GMP. By then, the walls are up.
The equipment is purchased. Production areas are established. And suddenly, you discover that your material flow doesn’t make sense, your receiving area is too small, your floors aren’t appropriate for production, or your facility layout creates unnecessary contamination risks.
What Should You Consider Before Signing a Lease or Purchasing a Building?
Before committing to a space, evaluate more than square footage and rent/purchasing. A GMP-complaint facility assessment should consider:
- Facility size
- Personnel flows
- Material flow
- Receiving and storage
- Production areas
- Cleaning and sanitation
- Drainage
- Ventilation
- Personnel facilities
- Waste
- Utilities
- Future growth
Don’t Forget the Floor Plan
A floor plan isn’t just an architect’s drawing. For a GMP facility, the layout should tell a story: from production start to finish:
- Where do materials enter?
- Where are they stored?
- Where does production occur?
- Where is packaging performed?
- Where does finished product go?
- How do employees move through the facility?
If you can’t clearly answer those questions on paper, the facility may become much more difficult, and expensive, to manage once production begins.
Don’t Build Your Facility and Then Ask Whether It’s GMP Compliant
Build the facility with GMP in mind from the beginning. Whether you’re expanding an existing operation, moving into a larger facility, or starting a new manufacturing operation, bringing compliance into the conversation early can save significant time, money, and headaches later.
Before you sign the lease, purchase property, buy the equipment, or start construction, have your facility reviewed through a GMP lens.
